Being true to yourself does not mean never changing your opinions, beliefs, or actions. Rather, it is much the opposite. Being true to yourself, above all, means to be receptive to change and refusing to have a static lifestyle while holding fast to the things that have allowed you to evolve with the world around you. It means remembering and acknowledging the steps you’ve taken and the people who have helped you take them, and not changing because of anyone’s conviction but your own. It means not allowing anyone or anything to define you without your consent. Being true to yourself means remembering the past, making decisions about your actions and beliefs in the present, and looking forward to the future with an inspired heart and a clear mind. Change, if anything, is the poorest indicator of if one has stayed true to himself. How and why one changes though, says more than any observable shift ever could.
