Red Shoes: A Poem

I have a lot of favorite phrases

“Shouting into the void” is one of them.

And how strange it is that we shout

As if the volume of our voices could reflect the gravity of what we say

Like the time I wanted red shoes

I said I wanted to make a statement

Even though those shoes

Were just a means to tread where others have already walked

And how beautiful it is that we shout

As if the volume of our voices could reflect their desperation to be heard

That void is concrete

Like the time I wanted red shoes

I said I wanted to make a statement

Even though those shoes were just a means to tread where others have already walked

How beautiful it is

That those shoes still shout.
